City of Fulshear activates Stage 1 water conservation measures
FULSHEAR, Texas — The City of Fulshear is activating Stage 1 of the Drought Contingency Plan, which implements voluntary water conservation measures beginning Monday, Aug. 31, at midnight.
The city continues to closely monitor water demand, system pressure and available water supply. Under Section 4.3.1 of the City of Fulshear’s 2024 Drought Contingency Plan, the mayor may initiate Stage 1 based on weather conditions, distribution and water supply system deficiencies, or unforeseen circumstances. By implementing Stage 1 now, the city is taking a proactive step to reduce demand before conditions warrant progression to Stage 2.
During Stage 1, residents and businesses are asked to voluntarily limit outdoor watering to twice per week:
- Odd-numbered addresses: Sunday and Thursday
- Even-numbered addresses: Wednesday and Saturday
- No scheduled watering: Monday, Tuesday and Friday
Customers are also asked to avoid outdoor watering between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and minimize other nonessential water use.
The city is also taking steps to reduce demand across its operations, including reducing nonessential municipal water use and landscape irrigation, limiting water main flushing where appropriate, increasing leak detection and repair efforts, and working with major water users to encourage voluntary reductions.
Certain nonessential water uses are prohibited during Stage 1 under the city's Drought Contingency Plan. These include washing sidewalks, driveways, parking lots or other hard-surfaced areas; washing buildings except for immediate fire protection; using water for dust control; flushing gutters or allowing water to unnecessarily accumulate in streets; and failing to repair a controllable leak within a reasonable period after receiving notice.
