Chief Building Official/Director of Code Enforcement

The City of Fulshear is seeking a Building Official/ Director of Code Enforcement.  Fulshear is a rapidly growing City of approximately 6,800, located in northern Ft. Bend County, approximately 35 miles due west of downtown Houston. The City lies on FM 1093 approximately 4.5 miles from the intersection of the Grand Parkway and Westpark Tollway and approximately 7 miles south of I-10.  The City is included in plans to expand FM 1093 and the Westpark Tollway in the near future.  Based on current growth trends, population projections indicate a population near 20,000 within the next 15 years. The City is currently served by three inspectors, one code enforcement officer, and one residential plans examiner and one clerk.  The position would manage all of these personnel in addition to a soon to be added third inspector/ code enforcement officer. 

Applicants should have at least seven (7) and preferably ten years’ experience in municipal building inspection and code enforcement with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience should include construction and/or building inspection experience including experience working with residential and commercial buildings. Possession of a valid Class C Texas driver's license. Possession of International Code Council certification as a Building Official or a combination of relevant experiences and certifications including: State Plumbing Inspector License and/or Certified Code Enforcement Officer in addition to the ability to obtain International Code Council Building Official within six months of employment. All certifications are required within one year of employment. The person in this position must be able to pass background check and drug screen.  Some travel required.  Maintenance Crew

Position Status: Non-Exempt

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the City’s infrastructure on a day to day basis. 

Essential Duties: 

  • Conduct repair and maintenance of City facilities including but not limited to City Hall, City welcome signs, Water and Waste Water facilities, Rights of Way and Alleys and City recreational facilities. 
  • Identify and report any potential safety issues to supervisor. 
  • Participate in training on equipment and basic safety. 
  • Conduct street repair as needed and able. 
  • Conduct routine maintenance of City equipment. 
  • Participate in clean-up and preparation for City events as needed. 
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds. 
  • Other duties as assigned or required to perform the function of the position.
